The original intent with the surgery was to put a band on the left collateral (a pulmonary artery feeding the left lung from the aorta). This was to reduce blood pressure in the left lung preventing damage over time. When they began the surgery, they found the main trunk of the collateral started to close. This meant that instead of reducing flow they had to increase flow to the left lung. To do this, they put in a central shunt (tube) from the aorta to the left collateral beyond where the collateral was closing off. With the shunt they can meter the flow to the left lung and prevent it from closing.
It was a blessing to wait for the surgery. We were scheduled for surgery on Friday, December 12. At that time, they were planning on putting the band in. Sunday night (Dec 14) his collateral started closing off. Had they done the surgery on Friday, they would have had to open him back up to put the shunt in. Are you still counting the blessings with us? ...Name them one by one!
We are hoping Conner can get off the ventilator today. Then we can begin feeding. So far so good.
Kids are coming in today. They called from the airport in Spokane and said their plane was taking off as scheduled. 'Twill be good to have the family together again after 5 weeks for Sariah and 3 weeks for me. Thanks sooo much to all of our family and friends that helped to get the kids here!! We feel overwhelmed by the generosity. We hope that someday we can pass it on.....

I'm so glad everything went so well and in Heavenly Father's timing. I bet your kids are so excited to see both of you and vice versa. I'm excited for all of you. Heather and Heath are leaving tomorrow to go and get their girls from Haiti. They should be home on Christmas Eve. Pray their flights go well and the weather is good. You are still in our prayers every moment. We love you and know Heavenly Father is blessing each of you. Have a great Christmas wih you family!
I am so glad he didn't have the original surgery as planned . Glad the kids won't have to wait hours in the airport! And you can all be together for Christmas!! Hope all continues to go well with the little man so you can bring him home.
Christmas is sneaking up on me I can't believe that it is so close....I am so glad that your family will be together at this time...enjoy them. We are continuing to pray for Conner and that he will continue to heal quickly from the surgery- also that the doctors will be able to figure out the platelets. The picture in the last post broke my heart. I'm so sorry that you have to watch your baby go through that. What a blessing that he didn't have to go through it twice! I hope that you all have a wonderful Christmas and get to go home soon. Love you all!
